Derry City supporters Matt Boyle, Ryan McKeegan and Deaglan Barrett – all of whom have been involved in the formation of the Supporters Trust – today met the FAI to discuss the concept of a Supporters Trust at Derry City FC.

In a relatively short meeting the FAI outlined their ambition to see senior football return to Derry and outlined a process that must first be followed in order to achieve this. They were extremely hopeful that Derry will be back playing football within the FAI jurisdiction next year.

The supporters were asked to outline the current status of the Derry City Supporters Trust. We informed them that the Trust is fully registered and regulated with a support network across the UK and Ireland.

The FAI asked about member numbers and were informed that, as of last count, in the region of 60 individuals had registered online and we plan in the very near future to open up “paper membership” at a public meeting in order to further increase the membership.

It was made clear to the FAI that the Supporters Trust does not claim to yet have a mandate from supporters – as the Trust is still very much in its embryonic phase.

The FAI delegation had previously met with a potential steering committee including other businessmen within the city as well as the Lord Mayor. All the meetings were described as very positive.
